Divergent Review
Divergent is the first movie of one of the most
famous trilogies in the world. It is a science-fiction film with a little romance
thrown in. It is based on the novel Divergent that was written by Veronica Roth.
The film was directed by Neil Burger and it was released in 2014.
The film is set in “Chicago" and Shailene
Woodley was the actress who played the female lead role as Tris (Beatrice Prior)
and Theo James played the male lead role as Four.
Divergent is a futurist movie based on a
different type of society and its problems. Beatrice Prior and her family, live
in Chicago, a city that is surrounded by a wall, which protects the city from the
exterior and tries to keep their inhabitants “safe”. The wall was built after a
world war, which was the main cause of its construction and all the changes
that Chicago has undergone. They
live in a kind of society whose population is divided in to factions. There are
five factions: Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauntless and Erudite. Each faction is
in charge of important charges for the city and the charges depend on the
faction’s qualities. Every year teenagers have to choose one faction, and to
help them to decide the best option, there is a selection prove, you have to
pass a test which tells them which faction is the most suitable one for their
aptitudes. However, there is a problem. There are some people that have all the
aptitudes. The people are called divergent and they are supposed to be a
harmful to society, but, are they a real damage? Beatrice Prior chooses Dauntless although she
is a divergent. In Dauntless, she meets Four a Dauntless member, and they fall
in love. After some time training there, they discover that the Erudite leader,
Janina, is hatching something important. Are they going to save Chicago’s
inhabitants?
In my opinion, the acting was amazing. Shailene
and Theo are incredible actors. Both of them acted perfectly. Talking about the
setting, it could be improved, mainly in the special effects regarding the wall
and the special effects of the city. What I found absolutely fascinating was
the costumes. I really liked the way the actors are characterized. Secondly,
while I was watching the film, I noticed that it is short on music. I really
needed more music. On the other hand, the plot is very interesting because of
the way that all the events happen, all the time the thrill is increasing and
the audience need to know what is going next. Finally, the last aspect that I
am going to be talking about is the Divergent second message, it gives an
important critic for today’s society, it is more than a science-fiction film,
it gives you, a part of friendship and generosity, it gives you moral
principles and it also shows what nowadays our society looks like.
In conclusion, it is a breathtaking film, so it
is a must for everybody. I strongly recommend this movie to everybody because
it has to be seen. You can watch it with all your family or with your friends,
they are going to love the film. All of you should watch it as soon as
possible!
